JAGA Monthly Meeting Golf Rules

Established by the Executive Board on May 11, 2009

  1. All play is governed by USGA Rules except as otherwise noted below or as directed at the meetings.

  2. Teams are formed from the reservations made by Officers or Directors.  In order to play golf, the Officer or Director must also attend the meeting.

  3. Officers and Directors may not request to play with any other Officer or Director.  They may request to play with ONE guest maximum.  Other guests are paired on a different team.  Exceptions must be approved by the JAGA President.

  4. Players in the 'game' for prizes must have verifiable USGA handicap indexes.  Officers, Directors and guests who do not have verifiable USGA handicap indexes, may play golf but they are not in the 'game' for prizes.

  5. As closely as possible, teams will be randomly arranged by A-B-C-D format, based on current handicap index.

  6. Players are paired with the other members of their team for the game.

  7. Each player receives a handicap in accordance with the USGA Handicap System.  When different tees are used by the competitors, handicaps are adjusted in accordance with USGA Handicap System, Section 3-5/1.

  8. Each player is given a quota figured as follows:

    • His USGA index is converted to a handicap for the tees he selected.

    • His handicap is subtracted from 36,  The remainder is his quota.

  9. A player's hole points are determined using a Modified Stableford system.   A player earns:

    • zero hole points for double bogie or worse,

    • one hole point for a bogie,

    • two hole points for a par,

    • three hole points for a birdie,

    • four hole points for an eagle,

    • five hole points for a double-eagle.

Individual player's total points are calculated in relationship to his quota.  e.g. Player's quota = 19, player scores 21 hole points.  Player's total points are +2.

  10. Team points are the sum of ALL four individual player's total points as determined above.  e.g. Player 1 = +6, Player 2 = +1, Player 3 = 0, and Player 4 = -3.  Team points = +4 Team ranking for the day is determined by the highest team points to the lowest team points.

  11. Ties are broken by regression as follows:

    •  First tiebreaker - sum of best 3 player's total points on the team

    • Second tiebreaker- sum of best 2 player's total points on the team

    • Third tiebreaker - the best 1 player's total points on the team

    • Fourth tiebreaker - coin toss

  12. Teams who are threesomes are filled after play but prior to awards with a player drawn by a blind draw from the other players.

  13. Prize money is $10.00 per player, taken from the meeting fee. Prizes are gift certificates from the host golf course purchased with the prize money. Prize amount value will be determined by number of players. The greater the number of players in the game, the higher the prize value and the higher the number of places paid. The prizes are approximately:

    • 40% of the pool for first place

    • 30% of the pool for 3rd place

    • 20% of the pool for 3rd place

    • 10% of the pool for 4th place

  14. Rain-outs and other cancellations - In the event that a match is canceled after the club has been paid, JAGA has purchased prize certificates, and not ALL teams have completed their rounds, prizes will be awarded by lottery drawing from the teams that are present.  Partial teams are only awarded prizes for those players present.  Any left over certificates are awarded at the next meeting.
