J.A.G.A. Directors Meeting
July 15, 2003
San Jose Country Club
President Don Haws opened the meeting at 10:06 a.m. Minutes were
approved by voice vote. Treasurer Jerry Kay reported that we have $7988.47
in the bank with all outstanding bills paid. V.P. Administration Jim
Andrews in formed the members that our next meeting will be at Ponte Vedra
Country Club on 8-12-2003. This meeting will include the Pro's and General
Managers of our member clubs. There will be a presentation from each of
the three groups so all will be better informed as about each group.
The following meeting will be in Palm Coast on 9-16-2003. Jim, reporting
for Lee Crowe, the preparations for The Bill Black Tournament are going
well. Bart O'leary reported that the City Armature was all set for July
18/19/20. He did ask for some more volunteers. The Jacksonville Junior
will be held August 8 & 9 at The Course at Westlands. Our Father's Day
tournament raised about $ 550 for the scholarship fund ( there are still a
few charges outstanding). Scholarships/ Tom Tierney reports that Nick
Clark will work as a liaison between JAGA and The Pro's in our area. The
following contributions to the scholarship fund were received: Ponte Vedra
Men's Golf Assoc. $1,000.00, Eagle Harbor $350.00, and Bill Kampre
$100.00.
Old Business
Barney Poston reported that the JAGA directory was now on line. He is
going to try to add pictures of each of the directors. Carl Arnold made a
motion, which was seconded, that we play by the USGA rules of golf at all
future meeting. After discussion this motion was approved by a majority of
those present. Carl made a second motion, which was seconded, to change
the method we currently use to determine the handicap for each director to
the Stableford system. After discussion the motion was amended to include
more smooth path to a change of systems. At the last Executive committee
meeting a Motion was approved to allow players in our tournaments from non
member courses as long as they have a valid handicap. Ed Whitten Brought
up the subject of our meeting time and that issue is still being worked
on.
Our guest speaker was Brian Moore, golf superintendent from Deer Creek
Country Club. He told us how he came to be in this business and of some of
his experiences over the last 19 years.
Pairings were given out and the meeting was adjourned at 11:34 a.m.
